Whose history belongs in our museums? This assignment invites you to consider this music video as a response to the role (or lack thereof) of people of African descent in the history of European/American art.
You should recognize many of the paintings from the Louvre in Paris that appear in this video. Why do you think these paintings were selected? How do Beyoncé and Jay Z position their cultural status in relation to this history of art? Your essay should include a detailed discussion of at least one of the paintings in the video we have discussed in class and a discussion of how that painting is important to the video.
